Mr. + Mrs. | We're Hitched!

Yes... we were engaged in April and married in July - and let me tell you, it was awesome! With a yellow accent and a vintage camera theme, we pulled it all together in an intimate ceremony and a rockin party, just the way we had envisioned!

I think that being wedding photographers completely gave us an advantage when it came to planning. We've seen so much throughout our career's in the industry and it gave us a lot to draw from when putting together our own day. We knew that we wanted to get married outside, and most importantly we wanted the day to be casual and memorable for our family & friends. Just a celebration and a chance to get everyone we love together in one place to share our vows. And, of course, we love a good party, so this was also a must! Overall, we are thrilled with how everything turned out and we had a great time!

We were hitched on July 18th, with an outdoor ceremony at the lovely Berkeley Castle Courtyard downtown with our close family & friends. We absolutely fell in love with the space when we first saw it- the lush green grass, welcoming tree and antique stone walls covered in crawling ivy - it was like a little slice of the country right down town. Not only that, but it's tucked away from the crowds, hustle & bustle of the city - perfect.

The talented and lovely crew from Wellington Music was there to provide both classical and more contemporary string music throughout the seating and ceremony. This addition completely set the tone in the afternoon and we simply couldn't have pictured it without them. The musicians were amazing and Orsi, the owner, is such a sweetheart. We've seen these talented musicians from Wellington play hundreds of times, so this choice was also an easy one.

When it came to our officiant, we've pretty much seen it all in our combined 10 years in the wedding biz, and we knew exactly who we wanted to have marry us. Since we had a relatively short engagement, we were really excited to hear that Jeremy Citron of All You Need is Love was available for our day! We've always liked his style- he's got a great sense of humor without any cheese, has a knack for putting his couples at ease, and is basically an all-around lovely person. We enjoyed every minute we worked Jeremy leading up to our wedding - he's also in full support of customizing the ceremony to suit you, something that was really important to us. AND, get this- upon hearing that my family is of German decent and that my grandmother doesn't speak much English, he offered to do a portion of our ceremony in German! It was so well done, and a perfect surprise for my Oma & familiy on the day, it really made them feel as though they were a part of the service. It's something I didn't even think would be a possibility, but was simply a perfect addition! In a nutshell, he comes highly, highly recommend for all you couples out there still in search of an officiant, we can't say enough great things about him.

Our reception was at Steam Whistle Brewery downtown - the perfect mix of a unique, rustic atmosphere and a party vibe... just what we were looking for! We have nothing but great things to say about this venue and it's staff. We loved everything from the high ceilings to the giant warehouse windows, plus they had an antique photo booth already on site, which happened to fit perfectly with our theme!

Now, for the question that seems to be on everyone's minds - who were our photographers? Well, this is a bit of a long answer - in our lives we are lucky enough to be surrounded by some really amazing friends. People we can count on, laugh with and learn from, a collection of people we're proud to have in our lives... as such we were overjoyed when they all stepped up and excitedly offered to photograph our wedding for us. Honestly, what better gift could there be on your wedding day then to have amazing photos by people you trust, with the opportunity to celebrate with them along the way?

We've put together a collection of our favourites to share with you (it was very hard to narrow it down). The images below are by the very talented Toronto Photographers Meghan Andrews, Kenneth Chou, Matt Green (Matt decided to stick mainly to video, so their aren't too many shots by him below) and Johnny Lam. Yes, we know... lucky us! ;)

...always a sucker for the details I had to share a few of ours with you! My mom actually made our wicked ring pillow using antique lace from her & my aunt's childhood dresses. It was so gorgeous!

I simply fell in LOVE with my felted necklace from Hold Out Your Hand, it was the perfect pop of colour in a modern design. AND, to go along with our theme be bought our family & a few close friends each a unique silk-screened camera hanky from The Honey Press in case they needed one throughout the day.

My nephew and ring bearer extraordinaire, Parker, came to get dressed with us - such a little ham!

My mom is a hairdresser - so I lucked out there, it was great to have her there with us in the morning, and she did an amazing job! Ashley, my Maid of Honour came up all the way from Miami to be apart of the day. We've been friends since grade nine, and she is ridiculously amazing and I'm so so happy that she was able to be there with me for the weekend:

I love bird-cage veils:

Heading over...

What would a photographer's wedding be without camera cufflinks? And we picked up a few custom-made Leica pins for Trev, Johnny & Ken:

As usual, Trevor sported his Leica for the day:

Ahem... sorry, he's taken. ;)

The ceremony site at Berkeley Castle was perfect for us, and Wellington Music set the tone for the afternoon- their music filled the courtyard with a lovely sense of calm as the guests arrived:

Their were a few photo-wars throughout the day... here's a funny dyptic for you!

Trevor, his amazingly adorable Grandma, Helen and his mom before escorting them down the aisle. I love the love here:

Ash, you looked stunning!

Ok, so we're bias but I'm pretty sure he's the most adorable ring bearer ever- look at that concentration:

Trevor & his brother Evan looked so freaking handsome!:

I love this tree... so beautiful!

The day went by fast, but during the ceremony I really feel like things slowed down and I was really able to take it all in. It was just the way we had hoped:

First Kiss!

Our families were too cute:

It was Jeremy's idea to put our cameras on the signing table... much more fitting for us then just the flowers!

Hitched!!!

It's an amazing feeling to have all the people you care about together to share such a great moment with you:

I LOVE this - Parker's such a little man here:

Some people are just great at hugging, like my nephew Jasper:

And apparently, at our wedding everyone has to earn their keep. Here's Hailey helping out dad, adorable!

Here's us and our AMAZINGLY talented photog's - minus Matt Green who was kind enough to do a little video for us. We love you guys! Photo by the lovely Carla Beharry:

And a few from our session around the ceremony area:
A candid classic:

This branch was pretty much begging for it...

I had a photo of my dad with me on the bouquet. :)

The reception was good times:

We had old wedding pictures from our families out for everyone's enjoyment, different antique cameras from our collection as a part of the centre pieces at each table, and polariod table numbers taken around the city. Our good friends Darrell & Ally customized our cedar boxes by lazer-burning 8 different antique cameras into them, they were AMAZING! I worked with Donna Pool to request a collection of one-of-a-kind camera pins created from vintage photo magazines. Eveyone recieved one with their place card. And, last but not least, my Aunt & Cousin made the most delicious cupcakes ever for us - chocolate cake with white chocolate chips and cream cheese icing! They were fantastic!

First dance as husband & wife - we rocked it to 'Is This Love' by Bob Marley and it was great. Shortly after we discovered 'Say Hey' by Michael Fronti & Spearhead... we'll be dancing to this one at our vowel renewal one day. ;)

A little love after my step-dad's speach:

The vintage photobooth at Steam Whistle was a HUGE hit! We made copies of the film strips and sent them out to our guests inside their Thank You Cards:

Of course, we had to share a few of our favs - I think there is nothing cooler than the centre strip with my nephews Griffin & Jasper. Seriously, could they be any cooler?

DJ Dan = Awesome. He even invited us over to his place before the wedding to search through his wicked vinyl collection- he spun up a storm all nigh. 'Nuff said:

As I said, it was good times...

AND... I haven't forgotten- I just don't have any more time today, but of course a ring photo is coming soon! ;)

Thanks to everyone who was able to share the day with us, it meant so much to us to have you all there. Everything came together beautifully and we couldn't have done it with out the help of our family & friends. I can't speak from my new husband, but I'm so so thrilled to be your wife, and can't wait for all the adventures yet to come! xoxo
